BE FREE of distractions
In today's world, we have so many distractions. It can be hard to stay focused reading the Bible or praying because there are so many things that are causing our minds to wonder. We may see a good verse and want to "share" it on Facebook or Twitter AND THEN we start wondering what everyone else is up to and end up spending our "God time" wasting "Our time"!
In Romans 7:15 Paul tells us, "I don't really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do what I hate."
It is an everyday struggle to do what we know God wants us to do. We are not gaining "points" with God if we DO these things, but it sure puts us in a better place and keeps our faith steady so that we can receive the things God wants us to receive. You may be thinking, "well, there's really nothing I am needing...life is good...my bills are paid..."...BUT ONE DAY may come and someone in your family or YOU will NEED GOD! It's just as easy to have a relationship with Him now and get to know who He is NOW then wait until you need Him. Relationships don't work out real well when you only talk to the one you are in a relationship with when you need something!
It is our responsibility to get distractions out of the way and PUT GOD FIRST! “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”Matthew 6:33
When I was in school and had to study for a test or do homework, I just couldn't have any outside noises distracting me. A lot of times my friends could study AND listen to music or watch television. I just never could. I always had to focus on what I was doing. And till this very day, it is the same way. While writing this blog, I have to have a quiet room. It's hard to think and write...or stay focused on the task before me if there are any distractions or noise.
In fact, it is so much a habit and very important that it is very frustrating to me to read the Bible or pray and hear music at the same time.
Now, we NEED to give God PRAISE! IN FACT, we are TOLD TO GIVE HIM PRAISE many times. BUT is that the same as PRAYING? Absolutely NOT!
Praising is giving God thanks and worshiping Him. It is having everything line up, our spirit man, our soul man, and our body! BLESS THE LORD OH MY SOUL (Psalms 103:1) I WILL PRAISE YOU LORD MY GOD, WITH ALL MY HEART; I WILL GLORIFY YOUR NAME FOREVER. (Psalms 86:2)
AND our body just lines up! Our body does what our soul tells is to do, BUT THIS IS THE REASON, we need to "walk in the spirit"...WHEN WE WALK IN THE SPIRIT, we do not fulfill the LUSTS OF THE FLESH!
Our soul (mind, will, and emotions)..LOVES to FEEL GOOD! We like to eat pizza, brownies, & ice-cream! We like to watch or see something that makes US SMILE! WE like to hear music that makes us feel JOYFUL! BUT OUR SPIRIT MAN and OUR SOUL MAN are always at WAR with each other.
OUR SPIRIT MAN wants to do RIGHT! OUR SOUL MAN wants to "feel" right! But we CANNOT let our soul man have its way!
When we are in a place of seeking the face of GOD, this is NOT THE TIME for our SOUL man to "feel" good! It is a time to get hooked up with God in ONE MIND, ONE PURPOSE and letting GOD be the focus!
Therefore if you have any encouragement in
Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the
Spirit, if any affection and compassion, then make my joy complete by being of one mind, having the same love, being united in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves. Philippians 2:1-3
When I'm praying and "trying" to stay in an atmosphere of prayer...seeking God and wanting to hear His voice...if there is music playing, my mind ALWAYS! ALWAYS goes to that place. Because our body is struggling! It wants to do the "feel good" while my spirit man is crying out wanting to seek God!
IT IS A MUST that we don't let even the LITTLE DISTRACTIONS distract us!
The best time to hear the voice of God is during prayer. I can hear Him loud and clear. But when there are distractions, I can't hear anything else but those!
Satan wants us to sink!!! He does everything and anything He can to get us side-tracked! He puts distractions in our way and usually the smallest distraction is the one that will MESS US UP!
Be CAUTIOUS and BE ON GUARD!!! LAY ASIDE DISTRACTIONS and HOOK UP to the ONE THAT will SET YOU FREE!!!!
Remember, when the day of Pentecost came..."And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place." Acts 2:1
